Looking for something fun to do in Philadelphia this summer? Look no further! Here are some of the top festivals and activities the city has to offer:
Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival at Franklin Square
The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival at Franklin Square returns for its third year in the Philadelphia Historic District. The festival began on May 1 and will run until the end of June. All lanterns are constructed by genuine Chinese artists. This year features 28 different displays, which consist of 1,500 works of art. Fan favorites of last year’s 200-foot-long Chinese dragon and panda lanterns have made a repeat performance, but otherwise, the designs are all brand new for this special occasion. The event is family friendly, even for your four-legged family members!
Be sure to keep your ticket or receipt after you leave — participating restaurants are offering discounts for anyone who presents them.
Anyone familiar with the Philadelphia area has heard of Spruce Street Harbor Park and its spectacular view of the Delaware River Waterfront. Jetsetter even named it as one of the best urban beaches in the world. With pop-up restaurants, hammocks, loungers, and fire pits, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. There’s even a traditional wooden boardwalk that has lots of food and arcade games.
It’s a great way to spend a Friday night, and you don’t even need a ticket to go and have a good time.
Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest
The warmer-weather counterpart to Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest, the Summerfest offers a roller skating rink, lodge with appetizers and full-service bar, play area for kids, and a mini-carnival. The Midway provides a carousel, Ferris Wheel, and lots of other rides for kids of all ages. It’s only a short walk away from the Spruce Street Harbor Park if you want to switch things up, too.
